In just over twenty years, Ballechin — the second single malt produced by the Edradour distillery — has earned a strong reputation among lovers of peated whiskies. Its creator in 2002 was none other than Iain Henderson, a seasoned master distiller and a well-known figure on the island of Islay, where he ran the Laphroaig distillery for more than fifteen years. Impressive in both precision and smoothness, this second expression in the duo released by Signatory Vintage reveals an omnipresent and insatiable peat. Its aromatic and flavour profile is rich with floral, fruity, and chocolatey notes that showcase its maturation in a cask previously used to hold high-quality oloroso sherry.
