Appearance : coppery burnished gold.
Nose : distinguished, stately. The absolutely magnificent first nose is a subtle combination of dark chocolate, orange, fig, mango and eucalyptus. Allowed to breathe, a variety of honeys (lime blossom, bay tree, acacia) bring their divine fragrances to the palette of aromas. As they linger, a hint of medicine (ointment) and musk appear alongside refined notes of vanilla and coconut milk. Such presence!
Palate : clean, precise. On the attack, cocoa powder and green liquorice coat the sides of the palate. Deliciously tannic and silky (peach skin), this entrance continues on perfectly from the nose. The very herbal mid-palate (camomile, mint, sage) is remarkably refreshing. The heady (iris) and rooty end of the palate centres on cereal notes.
Overall : long, concentrated. At the start of the finish, notes of polish (wax), candied citrus fruit (pear, apricot), praline and torrefaction (coffee) precede a milky retro-nasal olfaction (yoghurt ice cream, almond milk). The finish gradually becomes increasingly powdery, rich (rice cake) and nobly spicy (saffron). The empty glass is camphoric, balsamic (Oregon pine) and herbaceous (gentian).
