SPEYMALT from MACALLAN 2001 Sherry Cask Antipodes G&M

$680.00

Quantity limited to 1 bottle.

1938, 1940, 1950, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1970, 1971, 1972 and 1973 are the oldest vintages in the Speymalt Macallan range bottled over the years by Gordon & MacPhail. In addition to this mindblowing trip back in time, this collection highlights the close links that bind this legendary distillery to Scotland’s famous independent bottler. This cask strength version is initially very sunny and warm. Then, over the course of the tasting, its flavour and aroma palette develops fruity and honeyed registers that provide a deep and fresh reply to its extremely noble wood.

Dense and powerful. Cocoa, wood, exotic fruits.

Tasting Notes

Colour :
Orange copper

Nose : Rich, powerful. Very concentrated, the first nose is musky, camphorated, fruity (apricot, walnut), wonderfully waxy and powdery (cocoa). Allowed to breathe, scents of iris concrete and sandalwood rub shoulders with exotic fruits (mango, pineapple, persimmon) and citrus fruits (orange, mandarin). In the background, superb malty, roasted (coffee) and vegetal (pipe tobacco) notes punctuate this very beautiful olfactory sequence.

Palate : Dense, tense. In the mouth, groundnuts (peanuts), dried fruits (almonds, walnuts), a fine liquorice and candied citrus fruits (orange, grapefruit) lead us into an aging cellar bursting with woody scents of great nobility. In the mid-palate, candied fruit (pear, pineapple, peach), beeswax and lavender honey are imbued with spicy (clove, nutmeg) and heady (Armenian paper) notes. The finish reveals many aromatic plants (linden, chamomile, lime).

Finish : Long, concentrated. At the start of the final, through a ray of light, we see grains of dust in suspension. In the process, notes of precious woods complete this poetic picture. Oily (tobacco, black olive), the aftertaste is simultaneously resinous (pine), syrupy (currant), slightly bitter (chocolate, bourbon vanilla) and saffron. Long after, flavors of orange zest, melon and quince bring a lot of complexity to the retro-nasal olfaction. Airy, the empty glass is floral (carnation, phlox, hyacinth, geranium) and liquorice.
