SECRET SPEYSIDE DISTILLERY 19 ans 2003 Edition No.72 Whisky Sponge D.D.

A single Refill Bourbon Barrel of 2003 single malt from a legendary Speyside distillery. This distillate is lightly peated, which is very unusual for this distillery. Bottled at cask strength. Wonderful profile with an unusual combination of medicinal and smoky notes. Tobacco leaf, dried apple, and shoe polish. Superb texture and length in the mouth. Decadent Drinks is an independent bottler of whisky and other spirits. Angus MacRaild – also the author of the WhiskySponge blog – is the founder. His philosophy is quality, enjoyment, and not taking life too seriously. This quirky aspect is reflected in both his blog and the labels of his bottlings, featuring the Sponge character in various ways. These bottlings, mostly single casks, are divided into different brands such as the Spongeverse, Equinox & Solstice, and Equilibrium. The Spongeverse includes WhiskySponge, RumSponge, CognacSponge, ArmagnacSponge, and WineSponge.

Tasting Notes

: Subtle traces of peat smoke, in addition to all the usual orchard fruits, elegant notes of honey and various nectars, freshly malted barley, and citrus notes. Magnificent!

Palate : A richer profile that remains focused on the distillery character, but seems more old school with these very delicate influences of peat and medicine. Fruits, honey, and an incredibly rich mouthfeel.

Finish : Good length, freshness of green apple with notes of granola and honey.
