PORT ELLEN 40 YO 1979 G&M 54.7%

Located on the south coast of the island of Islay, Port Ellen closed its doors in 1983. At least this is what we thought until the announcement of the reopening of this mythical distillery by the end of the year. This venerable Port Ellen, distilled in 1979, has aged 40 years in a second fill puncheon sherry cask. With a beautiful deep golden colour, it shows a rich profile with notes of peat and cooked apples. A limited edition of 407 bottles. The ‘Private Collection’ range encapsulates the very essence of Gordon & MacPhail philosophy to do right by the whisky. It features a truly exceptional and unique collection of greatly-aged single malts from celebrated, little-known and closed distilleries across Scotland.

Peaty, fruity. Caramelized apples, balsamic, smoky.
