OCHO 2019 Blanco – La Laja

The Rancho ‘El Vergel’ (The orchard) is located 10km southeast of the village of Arandas in the heights of Jalisco. It culminates at 2000 meters and its iron-rich red soil is characteristic of the surroundings of Jalisco. Don Felipe, Carlos’s father, considered this Rancho unsuitable for planting agaves because his lemon trees had frozen several times. Pecan trees grew on one of the edges of the land and peach trees had also been cultivated before the agaves. Carlos Camarena had a country house near El Vergel where he and his family spent many weekends. A deer also lived there, rescued from hunters after his mother was caught. The average weight of the agave plants was 20 kilos and the sugar content 26.76%, which corresponds to the standards of the region.

Profile: Fruity and mellow. Pear, honey, jalape–o, fresh herbs
