TASTING NOTE
Appearance : burnished gold.
Nose : refined, distinguished. Exotic fruits (kiwi, passion fruit, pineapple), dark chocolate, intense smoke, rich and oily peat, clove, vanilla, horseradish and a host of other aromas are all found on the deeply complex and fresh first nose. Allowed to breathe, the aroma palette becomes floral (carnation, lily of the valley, iris), lemony, spiritual (incense) and medicinal (iodine tincture, camphor).
Palate : elegant, full of energy. The deliciously honeyed attack (acacia) reveals a peat covered in mineral salts, sea spray and seaweed. On the mid-palate, a few notes of tarmac and burnt rubber flood the scene. At the end of the palate, this terpenic character is accentuated by the presence of volcanic flavours (magma, lava). With time, juicy pears make their way through to refresh the taste buds.
Overall : long, silky. The animal start of the finish (smoked bacon, smoked fish) is characterized by notes of wax and turmeric. The very end of the finish evokes chimney hearth through notes of soot and warm brick. On the retro-nasal olfaction, red fruits (strawberry, redcurrant) and lavender and violet flowers appear alongside chalky flavours. The empty glass is intensely malty, medicinal, animal, ashy and even sooty.
