KNAPPOGUE CASTLE 1995 Ex Libris The Devoted Friend

$810.00

Quantity limited to 1 bottle.

The especially nuanced aroma palette of this 1995 distillation begins by building a malty framework that acts as the backbone of the tasting. Wavering between classicism and originality, it is never short of arguments. On the palate, it is proud of its roots and with remarkable precision is in turns exotic, creamy, herbaceous, medicinal, powdery and marvellously tangy.

Tasting Notes

Appearance : Bright gold.

Nose : Rich, unctuous. The superbly oxidative (wax, lavender honey), herbaceous (fern), exotic (banana, pineapple) and roasted (coffee) first nose reveals lots of breadth. Allowed to breathe, grains of malted barley cover the entire palette of aromas. Gradually, fragrances of courgette flower, green tomato and paprika fill the air and leave a lasting impression.

Palate : Lively, sharp. The immediately exotic attack (passion fruit, pineapple) is at the same time deliciously creamy (milk tart), vanilla and herbaceous (cut hay). On the mid-palate, a subtle combination of beeswax, tiger balm and cardamom coats the taste buds. Warm honey, melted caramel and milky walnut then refresh the palate.

Finish : Long, silky. At the start of the finish, cocoa powder spreads across the tongue as black fruits (grape, cherry) release a deliciously tangy juice. At the very end of the finish, sweet spices (cinnamon, ginger) bring lots of rhythm to the tasting. The retro-nasal olfaction reveals dried apricot, mango, coriander and candied citrus fruit (lemon, mandarin). The empty glass is malty, vegetal (straw), slightly medicinal and camphoric.
