The Karuizawa distillery was built in 1955 in the city of the same name, in the Nagano prefecture, in the heart of the Japanese Alps. While Japanese whisky in general has a very good reputation, Karuizawa is especially sought after and appreciated by connoisseurs. Rewarded on numerous occasions at international competitions, it is a whisky that owes much of its character to the “Golden Promise” barley variety used and to aging in a sherry barrel. Since production ceased in 2000, the versions are becoming increasingly rare and prized.

Senju was an important suburb of Edo, but also the starting point for travels to the north. It was a lively neighborhood, filled with shops and travelers. However, Hokusai decided to represent a corner outside the frame where you can see the rice fields and Mount Fuji in the distance.
