GLENURY ROYAL 1984 35 Years Old 49.1%

Quantity limited to 1 bottle per client.

Founded around 1825 by Captain Robert Barclay, the Laird of Ury, Glenury distillery was based in Stonehaven in the eastern highlands.

In 1835 Barclay received special permission from King William IV to add ‘Royal’ to the name.

Glenury closed for a period during the Second World War due to the restrictions imposed of the use of barley. In the mid 60’s the distillery was expanded and the capacity doubled, however in the 1980’s the distillery became another victim of the downturn in the whisky industry.

An elegant, oily, fragrant new make, this particular cask has matured in a first fill Sherry butt in the G&M warehouses since 1984.

This last cask of Glenury Royal has matured to be a sweet, fruity single malt.

AROMA: STEWED FRUIT aromas and soft notes of POLISH give way to COCOA POWDER. CINNAMON spice comes to the fore alongside tart PLUM SKIN, TREACLE and subtle traces of TOASTED OAK..

TASTE: Sweet and drying with fresh CHERRY and ORANGE PEEL flavours. BURNT SUGAR and notes of DRIED FIG develop accompanied by BLACKCURRANT and fresh COFFEE grounds.

FINISH: Medium and fruity with lingering ANISEED and SHERRY influences on the finish.

To mark this iconic anniversary, G&M has selected casks from distilleries that are closed, or from makes with stills no longer in existence.

Truly unique, these four exceptional casks provide a fitting tribute to 125 years spent in pursuit of perfection. These whiskies are consigned to history and G&M has released their very last cask from each to commemorate & celebrate their 125th Anniversary.
