Produced from a blend of light rums distilled in a triple column still and heavy rums distilled in the distillery’s famous double retort pot still, this version enthusiastically fulfils the role of plenipotentiary bestowed upon it. Aged for 12 years in ex-bourbon casks, it has many arguments to support its legitimacy, notably a naturalness that wastes no time with flourishes, limitless generosity and a fierce passion to continually keep pushing forward.

The complex first nose is particularly exotic (mango, banana). Spicy (pepper), once allowed to breathe, it develops notes of vanilla and chocolate. Gradually, citrus fruit (lemon, orange) refreshes the palate. The concentrated attack is smoky and aniseedy. The spicy (nutmeg) and floral (carnation) mid-palate gradually becomes spicy (cayenne pepper). The silky start of the finish is fruity (apple) and candied (apricot). Very mineral (slate) and powdery (cocoa), it is then heady (lilac). The retro-nasal olfaction is a subtle mix of nuts (almond) and sweet spices (cinnamon).

Tasting Notes

Colour : Vibrant orangey copper

Nose : Refined, complex. The particularly exotic (mango, banana) first nose is also spicy (pepper, star anise, clove). Allowed to breathe, bourbon vanilla and chocolate aromas mix together with lots of harmony. Candied citrus fruit (lemon, orange) then gradually arrive to refresh the palate with perfect timing. Bit by bit, a fine layer of liquorice deliciously envelops the taste buds.

Palate : Concentrated, rich. On the attack, notes of smoke and aniseed take centre-stage. Quickly, however, it becomes increasingly spicy (pink peppercorn, nutmeg) and floral (carnation, hyacinth). Accentuating the flavour palette’s increase in power, the mid-palate is spicy (cayenne pepper, paprika) and medicinal (mustard poultice). With time, smoke rings from a burning cigar add an empyreumatic dimension to the end of the palate.

Finish : Long, silky. Fresh fruit (apple, plum) and candied fruit (apricot, pineapple) literally transcend the mineral (slate, schist) and powdery (cocoa) start of the finish. New heady florals then fragrance the end of the palate (purple lilac, peony). On the retro-nasal olfaction, nuts (walnut, almond, chestnut) and sweet spices (cinnamon, cumin, ginger) seize the palate. Dried flower and toffee aromas escape from the empty glass.
