CRAIGELLACHIE 23 ans 1999 Oloroso Sherry Exceptional Cask Series New Vibrations

$688.00

Founded in 1891, the Craigellachie distillery underwent a complete renovation in 1964, with the number of its stills increasing from two to four. Owned by Bacardi since 1998, it produces a single malt known for its richness, which is a component of the famous Dewar’s blended scotch. A succession of spicy, animalistic, mineral, saline, and exotic sequences, each more intense than the last, the aromatic and gustatory palette of this magnificent version is a truly faithful reflection of Craigellachie’s deeply “old-school” personality.

Tasting Notes

Colour
: Deep gold.

Nose : Direct, voluptuous. Covered by a layer of malted barley and chocolate, the initial aroma reveals exquisite and juicy fruits (apricot, peach, key lime). With aeration, autumnal scents of dried fruits (raisins, nuts) and Russian leather emerge.

Palate : Direct, vibrant. Slender and graceful, the palate starts with a touch of hazelnuts and a mineral quality (chalk). Smooth, the mid-palate is marked by exoticism (key lime, papaya). Then, the aromatic palette evolves into spicy (pepper, clove), saline, and animalistic (beef rib) sequences.

Finish : Airy, cohesive. The initial finish is simultaneously waxy, malty, and mineral (slate). Like the palate, the aftertaste has its share of exoticism (mango compote) and salinity. Towards the end of the finish, this salivating sequence transitions into soft notes of cranberries.
