Drawing on its omnipresent, generous and altruistic peat, this knock-out Chichibu is undeniably part of a very exclusive club of Single Malts that perfectly cultivates the art of paradox.
This philosophy is in truth the prerogative of all great malts. In doing this, it reminds us – if ever there was need – that behind every whisky stands a man that produced it, and that to reach such heights, you need not only unshakable confidence but also the ability to always listen to others. Intrinsic qualities which Ichiro Akuto has in no short supply.
Profile: the heady nose is magnificently peaty. Smoky, ashy, dry, earthy and oily peat. It then becomes floral, fruity, spicy, vanilla and marine. On the palate, the peat dies down, allowing Oriental tones (rose petal) to appear. The finish is marked by notes of citrus fruit, pipe tobacco and aromatic plants (verbena). The peat has become drier.
