As well as reflecting its smoky, malted barley, Caol Ila is also oily and peaty, with marine and vegetable notes. Its recent official bottlings, which are particularly expressive, have an intense smoky and peaty character with a good balance of saltiness and sweetness. Superb versions of this single malt have also been released by independent bottlers Gordon MacPhail & Signatory Vintage. Caol Ilas stills, which are large and onion-shaped, have a strong influence on this single malt and give it a fairly light and delicate character.
CAOL ILA 2007 The Culprit Chess Investigation Series 46%
Quantity limited to 1 bottle by client.
A new chapter in the investigation! The case could not be closed without unmasking the culprit. Chess Investigation returns with a seventh edition, a 2007 vintage marked by 4 years of maturation in first-fill sherry casks. The combination of the sweetness of the sherry and the strength of the peat tells us a little more about the dual personality of the culprit. A remarkable harmony between these two profiles, which are in opposition to each other but which complement each other wonderfully. A peat monster wrapped in sweetness, with an explosion of red fruits, raisins and dark chocolate, perfectly combined with the peaty, smoky and liquorice character of the Caol Ila distillery. A limited edition of 891 bottles.
Profile: Smoky, rich. Red fruits, raisins, chocolate, ash, spices.
