Description
TASTING NOTE
Colour: orangey copper with glints of gold.
Nose: rich, powerful. On the first nose, notes of almond and bourbon vanilla appear alongside notes of precious wood (oak, beeswax). Allowed to breathe, it becomes very delicately herbaceous (fresh tobacco) and candied (apricot, mango). Salted butter caramel, toffee and heather honey then illustrate its unctuous, almost sweet development. Gradually, various infusions (black tea, verbena) flood the aromatic palette with their subtle fragrances.
Palate: taut, lively. The particularly spicy (clove, black pepper, ginger) attack shows lots of personality. Full of life, it also brings to centre-stage delicately textured cereal notes (maize, rye). On the mid-palate, vanilla pod and black fruits (blueberry, blackcurrant) literally envelop the taste buds. The hot (iris, lily, cayenne pepper, paprika) and heady end of the palate also reveals an abundance of nuts (sweet chestnut, chestnut, almond).
Finish: long, distinguished. At the start of the finish, new spices appear (coriander, star anise, cinnamon). These are in remarkable harmony with the powdery notes (cocoa, coconut) that shower the tongue. Gradually, nectarine and greengage plum further flesh out the fruity register of this very complex Banton¡¯s. The mineral (schist, slate) retro-nasal olfaction beautifully returns to the maize notes found on the attack. The empty glass focuses on the lush and mentholated freshness of the flavour and aroma palette.
