ARMORIK 2011 Version Française

An LMDW exclusive

Warenghem was the first French distillery to begin producing whisky in 1983. In 1998, it once again paved the way for innovation, releasing the first French single malt under the brand Armorik. Since then, the distillery has continually refined its mastery of whisky production. From 2010 to 2012, every stage in the production of its single malt was revised and improved. Equipped with two pot stills (one 6,000-litre wash still and one 3,500-litre spirit still), it now offers a whisky loyal to its Breton geographic indication. The cask selected for the Version Française range is a clear reflection of its terroir, a single malt finished in a barrel previously containing chouchen, the famous “honey wine” characteristic of the region. Bottled at 50%, it reveals generosity sculpted by a very high-quality distillate.
Profile: the pioneer of French whisky distilleries introduces us to a unique and innovative creation. Rich, opulent and generous, this Warenghem single cask is like a basket of ripe apples and pears covered in honey and sprinkled with sweet spices and candied citrus fruit. The chouchen cask ageing works wonderfully, bringing real originality and anchoring the whisky in its terroir.

Appearance : yellow gold
Nose : the warm nose presents frank notes of honey, accompanied by lovely minerality (hail). Caramelized fruit, baked apple and poached pear enrich the aromatic palette. These are followed by fragrances of sweet pastry and butter not unlike the famous Breton pastry, the kouign-amann. Allowed to breathe, the whisky also reveals beautiful floral notes (mimosa).
Palate : the rich, oily palate stands out for its frank and mineral attack which is quickly tempered by flavours of honey confectionery. Resolutely pastry-like, the palate is like a tarte tatin sprinkled with sweet spices (cinnamon, vanilla). On the mid-palate, candied citrus fruits appear alongside flavours of frangipane and palets bretons (butter). Notes of blonde tobacco and toasted wood bring an additional dimension to the palate.
Overall : honey wine coats the palate for many long minutes. Apple melts into prune, and spices take us to a long finish. After a few minutes, only the chouchen remains.
