Built within the vaulted cellars of gourmet restaurant ERH, The Golden Promise is a beacon for whisky enthusiasts.
Named in honour of an heirloom variety of barley favou red by Scottish and Japanese distillers,
the establishment also hearkens back to the speakeasies of the 1920s.
The sequence of adjoining lounges of this multifaceted bar provides an intimate, cosy atmosphere, perfect for enjoying the various experiences on offer.
The first space is dedicated to cocktails: its menu reinterprets the classics — like a Blanton’s Old Fashioned served with a chocolate spoon — but also features many original creations. The second is for old & rare spirits, granting enthusiasts access to bottles that were in some cases thought lost for decades. Its menu, which is published within this chapter, features nearly a thousand collectible whiskies and rums, all of which are available to sample — and some, even to purchase.
Six very rare editions, sourced by La Maison du Whisky and exclusively sold by the glass, have been specially selected for the launch of this catalogue. The series is made up of one fabled blended malt — Nikka Taketsuru 35 Year Old — and five legends of scotch: distillery and independent bottlings from Bunnahabhain, Mortlach, Macallan, Springbank, and Strathisla. Distilled between 1936 and 1990, these extremely rare single malts are true artifacts of whisky history. Since its opening in St. Moritz in 1996, The Devil’s Place (the bar of Swiss hotel Waldhaus am See) has made rare and unusual whiskies its stock in trade. Its menu features nearly 2,500 items — a Guinness World Record — from around the globe. Three Scotch whiskies, recently selected by the hotel, are revealed within these pages.

NIKKA TAKETSURU 35 ans
Bottled for the Japanese market in the early 2000s, this blended malt is the oldest and rarest in the range of the same name, dedicated to Nikka’s founder. Of the thousand bottles produced, only some 50 were imported to France and distributed in Europe between January 2008 and December 2009. The blend notably includes malt from the oldest casks at the Miyagikyo distillery, built in 1969.
MORTLACH 35 ans 1936 – Connoisseurs’ Choice Black Label Barrel Sherry Cask – Gordon & MacPhail
This expression distilled in 1936 was matured in a sherry cask and bottled in the early 1970s by independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail for the Italian market. This first edition of Mortlach was followed in 1973 by a second bottling of the same vintage, this time aged for 36 years. Having secured several casks of 1936 from the distillery, Gordon & MacPhail was able to release some 15 versions with different ages and labels up until the mid-1980s.
STRATHISLA 34 ans 1937 – Connoisseurs’ Choice Black Label Barrel Sherry Cask – Gordon & MacPhail
Owned by Chivas, in the 1930s, Strathisla entrusted Gordon & MacPhail with the bottling and distribution of its single malt in sherry cask expressions. This 1937 vintage, the oldest ever released by the distillery, was the first Strathisla bottling to appear in the famous bottler’s portfolio. BUNNAHABHAIN 35 ans 1966 Fèis Ìle Edition 2002 Sherry Cask #4379
Bottled in March 2002 for the Fèis Ìle festival held every May in Islay since the mid-1980s, this expression of Bunnahabhain was only available from the distillery. It is the only Distillery Bottling bottled in 1996, a now-cult year for many disti l leries and all fans of sherry cask maturation. An outstanding illustration of the irreproachable ageing process, this single cask draws certain parallels with a famous Trinidadian rum.
SPRINGBANK 100°Proof 12 ans Green Thistle
This edition bottled at 50% ABV for the European market (57% for the UK) was launched in the mid-1990s, at a time when Springbank was focused on single malt production, following a short period of inactivity between 1979 and 1987.Several batches of this legendary expression exist, all produced at the iconic distillery. A blend of sherry butts aged for just 12 years, this batch demonstrates incredible maturity.
MACALLAN 25 ans 1965 « M » Tudor Crystal Decanter
In the early 1990s, Macallan launched the very first decanter of its malt, created by the last operating crystal works in the United Kingdom, Tudor Crystal, founded in 1922. This partnership led to a collection of decanters named “M”, distributed in all four corners of the world. It features The Macallan: 25 Year Old (no vintage), 25 Year Old 1962, 25 Year Old 1963 (the rarest), 25 Year Old 1964 and 25 Year Old 1965. This initial collaboration led to further versions, this time designed by French manufacturer Lalique.
